Third Annual BCFD Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser

10/25/2025

Bright and early on Saturday morning, October 18th, members of the Little Big Canyon Club (LBCC) kicked off their 3rd Annual Pancake Breakfast Feed, bringing the community together for a lively morning of food and fun-all to support the Big Canyon Volunteer Fire Department.

The breakfast took place at Big Canyon’s Main Fire Station, located north of downtown Peck, to raise money for the ongoing needs of the Big Canyon Fire District and to give the community an opportunity to tour the BCFD station and meet its staff.

After staying up late Friday night, volunteers of the Little Big Canyon Club and BCFD’s station manager Milt Nodacker arrived early at 6 am to get ready for the morning rush of hungry supporters.

With the BCFD’s fire trucks moved outside, the main parking bay of the fire station was covered with rows of tables and chairs set up in anticipation of the arrival of the parade of hungry patrons.

As with past years past, supporters arrived before the 8 am opening time to get the best choice of bake goods and a fresh home cooked breakfast that used 60 dozen home raised eggs.

LBCC and the BCFD would like to extend a special thank you to long time residents Shirley Midstokke, Misty Midstokke and Cindy Nichols for their generous donations of the scrumptious eggs and to Marshall’s Meats of Winchester, ID for donating the mouth-watering sausage for everyone to enjoy. We would also like to than Ragena Simper and Megan Simper for stopping their day to volunteer their help in our terribly busy kitchen.

The LBCC Breakfast Feed has become a fall tradition in just a few short years with a gathering of residents from miles around and this year with guests from as far away as Spokane, including Sam Wallace of Bonners Ferry who volunteered to help at the remarkably busy baked goods and T-shirt table.

Once inside, the supporters were greeted at the door by Peck’s Mayor Cheryl Carson who collected the $10 breakfast fee and directed everyone down the pathway to their breakfast goals.

As supporters walked through the alleyway toward breakfast, they were met by LBCC President Jessica Holz for a chance to buy raffle tickets toward this year prizes.

This year’s prizes were a Cortland Guide Fly Rod Combo donated by Polly of the Little Red Fly Shop, a large beautiful Rooster Metal Art Work donated by Tyler’s Metal Arts & More of Orofino, ID, a $100 gift card from Marshall’s Meat of Winchester, ID and a full size Mobile Pepsi Basketball Hoop Unit donated by Tony Wilson from Harvest Foods of Orofino, ID

As with each year’s event, the LBCC set up their famous Bake Sale and T-shirt tables that once again had a line formed keeping LBCC’s Patty Deoliveira and Sam Wallace busy throughout the morning.

Many of the locally baked delights sold out within the first hour of the event just as last year.

At 10 a.m. LBCC’s Jessica Holz made the announcement that Melody Sandal with State Farm Insurance was on hand to present BCFD Chief Randy Maas a check for $10,000 toward the repair of BCFD’s newest first response fire truck.

This check was part of a grant request and will be put to good use to help out with upgrading BCFD ability to better serve the local and surrounding communities in case of emergencies.

As the 11 a.m. closing time arrived the LBCC volunteers had served over 160 paying supporters with this year’s total funds raised from breakfast fees, raffle tickets, bake sale, T-shirt sales, local donations and fill the boot coming close to $3500.

When adding in the generous donation from State Farm Insurance to the BCFD, the total was just short of $13,500 for the three-hour event.

Winners of the Raffle Prizes are - Cortland Guide Fly Rod Combo was Robert Milchak, Large Beautiful Rooster Metal Artwork was Melody Sandahl, Marshall Meats $100 Gift Card was Kathy Dougherty, and the Mobile Pepsi Basketball Hoop Unit was Robert Milchak.

BCFD and the LBCC would like to extend their highest gratitude to Melody Sandal with State Farm Insurance, Polly of the Little Red Fly Shop of Peck, Tyler’s Metal Arts & More, Tony Wilson from Harvest Foods of Orofino, Marshall’s Meats of Winchester along with Hansen’s Garage of Orofino for their support.

Also, a quick mention to our dear friend from Peck and his wife, that stops in every year, though never stays to eat, who donated $200. Thank you again.

In addition, BCFD expresses our thank you to everyone that attended this year’s Breakfast Feed and everyone that purchased raffle tickets for the drawings.

All of the fire fighters of the BCFD would like to send out a very personal thank you this year to each of the LBCC members, President Jessica Holz, Vice President Penny Holland, Treasurer Tammy Hassell, Patty Deoliveira, Cheryl Davis-Carson, Cindy Nichols, Jean Nodacker, Mary Palmer, Laniece Staley and Paula Andrews McBroom for their dedication, kindness and talents along with so many hours of hard work for making this another successful  event.
